Background

Floz is closing the gap between distributors, retailers, consumers and manufactures in California’s recycling chain by adding value to the recycling process for its customers and suppliers. The company provides convenient front door delivery of its customers’ favorite beverages, recycles their empty containers, returning the CRV value to its members. The collected material is sent to participants of our supplier’s Extended Producer Material (EPR) program.

Positioning

Floz is the only beverage delivery service with recycling pickup and CRV redemption in the Los Angeles area.

Background
History

RePlanet had been the largest recycling company in Los Angeles when it officially closed its doors in 2019 due to increased business costs. Its closing was part of a trend for recycling centers that had started when China signaled it was changing its policies on raw recycling material imports. In 2018, the previous year, the LA Times reported a gross loss of $308 million dollars in CRV 5 cent deposits as recyclable packaging made its way to landfills instead of recycling bins.  A loss for consumers, environmentally and financially.

Branding
Mission

Floz’s mission is to empower our customers to save time, money, and the planet!

Our members leave behind the inconveniences of in-store shopping while recouping the California Refund Value (CRV) fee passed onto them by distributors and retail stores. As a result, the system the state of California put in place to save the environment by capturing recyclable material works! Thanks in part to our customers!

Logotype

The Floz logotype is a san serif font with customized corners. Its lower case lettering with rounded edges echos the profile of the individual-sized beverages we sell and containers we recycle. The fl ligature is the logotype’s focal point. The fluidity between the f and l is as smooth as a poured drink. The negative space between the two letters forms a labeled container. Its cap hoovers above it and the letterforms that define its edges, completing and calling attention to the beverage container graphic.
